Campaign to Support Northern Santa Barbara County United Way
United Way goes beyond temporary fixes to create lasting change that lifts up entire families and communities in our region. We focus on education, income and health, because these are the building blocks for a good quality of life. Donors find opportunities to contribute to these initiatives of change that continue to have a dynamic impact through United Way efforts.
The Santa Barbara County AmeriCorps Partnership for Veterans & People Experiencing Homelessness Honors Local AmeriCorps Members At Graduation Reception.
In 2016-2017 the Northern Santa Barbara County United Way was selected to implement a new AmeriCorps program to fulfill their chosen public service work to help our County address the critical needs of “Veterans & People Experiencing Homelessness.” This graduation event to recognize an honor them will be held on August 31, 2017 from 9:00am-11:00am at the Hotel Corque, 400 Alisal Road, Solvang.
Please join us in celebrating our first group of AmeriCorps Members who have given an intensive year of service to help others and meeting critical needs in our community. This event is for us as a community to show our endless appreciation for their work! We will honor the AmeriCorps Members, volunteers, community leaders, and businesses that make this public service possible. Meet our AmeriCorps Members and their families and the nonprofit community organizations and public agencies that host the Members. Also in attendance will be community supporters, elected officials, and community leaders. This year’s special guest will speak to the power of such partnerships.
What is AmeriCorps and how do they help? Think domestic Peace Corps locally engaging Americans in intensive service of street outreach, housing support, housing placement, and volunteer recruitment. This year’s class has helped more than 300 unduplicated people experiencing homelessness to access supportive services with an emphasis on housing; of which at least 60 are Veterans. The 2017-2018 program year is about to start with 500 volunteers to be recruited and 30 AmeriCorps Members serving at government and non-profit agencies, gaining career experience and earning education awards.
This Reception celebrates relationships and collaborations among our nonprofit organizations, local businesses, and government entities that address the critical need to assist people experiencing homelessness and Veterans in need of housing and supportive services. You will hear about the current state of homelessness in Santa Barbara County and the ways we can all have an impact!
We look forward to celebrating with you and gaining your partnership in this crucial endeavor for our community.
